Palin and Dating

So I've been on lot's of first dates in my life. Nearly, but not quite as many, second dates. Far fewer third dates.

Lots of first dates start with being smitten, enamoured, and very excited about the second date.

But the second date -- after some time has passed -- is a different thing, and you actually have to listen to what the other person says and start to make evaluations about another date. Three dates starts to whisper about a longer sequence.

I think that's what's happening with Palin. Figuratively, I mean. First date -- the announcement of her VP nomination (a blind date, given what was generally known about her) -- went great! Everyone's enamoured! She's so perfect!

But then came the second date -- the interview with Couric.

And so she speaks a little and we pay attention -- the pertinent videos abound -- and there are second thoughts. .oO{"ugh...how can I extricate myself from this"}

And so there's the awkward moment of feeling like you have to call back about a third date, but really don't want to. That's where I bet McCain and the Republican party are right now.
