What's On Our (del.icio.us) Collective Mind?

Coming up all too soon, Jim Groom and I will be giving a talk on social tagging and the semantic web, and that's been my prod into playing with using the two together, and to finally get around to learning to use the SPARQL query language for the semantic web.

As a mini project to get the exploration rolling, I asked, "What tags do my colleagues and I have in common on del.icio.us, and for what?". Del.icio.us was also a good place to start since they're using rss 1.0 (thus the rdf info is easy to get at). The list below is what came out of a recent snapshot of the rss feeds from me, Jim, Martha, Jerry, and Andy.

As it is, it might not be too exciting. I think that it will become more exciting as some of the following gets folded into the system:

  • Similar mixing, matching, and mashing from Flickr (and other) tags
  • Inclusion of the tags used in our blogs
  • Inclusion of SIOC (Semantically Interlinked Online Communities) data where available

For the semantic-web folks, here's a copy of the rdf/xml that this came out of. If you have Piggy Bank, that gives a fantastic way to browse through the info that's there. I'm using RAP (RDF API for PHP), and the handy tagging ontology by Richard Newman.
